Meet Paul Crabbe

Maestro tells the story of Paul Crabbe and his journey from childhood to adulthood.

  • At the beginning of the novel, Goldsworthy gives us lots of hints that Paul is quite young.  Some of those hints are obvious (such as telling us how old Paul is), while others are more subtle (such as allowing Paul's mother to speak for him).  In your workbook, create a list of quotations that demonstrate that Paul is young and not yet grown up.

  • Once you have done that, write a paragraph in which you explain HOW the first few pages of the book represent the beginning of Paul's growing up journey.
